Job Summary: Assists other grounds maintenance staff in performing grounds maintenance activities. Installs, repairs, and replaces playground or other anchored grounds items. Operates light ground maintenance equipment. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of grounds maintenance tools, machinery, and equipment. Performs routine fence repairs. Assists other shops in their operation: may accept and perform routine carpentry, structural, cleaning and other work as directed.
Key responsibilities
Performs routine and nonroutine grounds maintenance work as directed, including but not limited to: maintenance of lawns and gardens; grass cutting and edging; maintaining shrubbery, topiaries, and other ornamental horticulture; hand grading yards; preparing planting beds; mulching planting beds; planting of trees, shrubbery, bushes, grass, and other plants; removing and disposing of trees, shrubbery, bushes, and clippings; providing for water drainage on properties; dispersing sand in playground areas; and implementing and maintaining assigned landscaping projects.
Installs, repairs, and replaces playground or other anchored grounds items receives work order or work assignment; reviews and evaluates work site to determine appropriate action.
Operates light ground maintenance equipment, such as lawn mowers, hydro-seeders, mowers, rotary tillers, sod-cutters, chain saws, and woodchippers.
Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of grounds maintenance tools, machinery, and equipment.
Performs routine fence repairs.
Assists other shops in their operation: may accept and perform routine carpentry, structural, cleaning and other work as directed.
May assist other higher-skilled grounds maintenance staff in grounds maintenance activities.
Performs other related duties as required.
The ideal candidate
Some high school education is necessary to perform basic reading and mathematical operations.
Three to five years of experience in ground maintenance work.
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience necessary to obtain required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must have valid VA or NC driver's license.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, see, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
